Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - South Kalimantan is one of three provinces as pilot of national rubber prices rise through various programs will be disbursed by the central government.
Head of South Kalimantan Plantation and Livestock Office Dr. Suparmi in Banjarbaru, Wednesday, said as an effort to increase the price and quality of national rubber, the central government appointed three provinces, namely South Kalimantan, South Sumatra, and Jambi.
The program to accelerate the improvement in quality and price of rubber, among others, through intensification and strengthening of the Raw Rubber Processing and Marketing Unit (UPPB).
"Intensification is directed at rubber plantations that have already been produced and have joined the UPPB," she said.
Some of the intensifications is in the form of fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and ant-acid aid which previously has been burdening the farmers.
Efforts to strengthen the UPPB, he added, were aimed at improving the quality and selling price of raw rubber and strengthening its institutions.
"The Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor asked me, to oversee the program so that it really had an impact on improving the welfare of the community," she said.
According to her, so far 109 UPPBs have been formed in South Kalimantan. Of these, 46 UPPBs have partnered with crumb rubber factories, so they get better prices.
According to Suparmi, in addition to intensification, the government will carry out 1,600 hectares of rubber rejuvenation. The number of rejuvenation increases, compared to 2018, which only 680 hectares, while in 2017 was 1,500 hectares.
The area of rubber plantations reaches 270,345 hectares with annual production of 197,699 tons of dry rubber.
There are 12 rubber processing plants in South Kalimantan with an installed capacity of 274,900 tons per year, consisting of 10 crumb rubber factories with SIR10 and SIR20 production, and two RSS factories.
