Banjarbaru, (Antaranews Kalsel) - A total of 10 cases of rabies transmitting animals (HPR) in Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan, were tested positive and their victims were treated with Anti-Rabies Vaccine (VAR).
Head of the Livestock Division of the Banjarbaru Food Resilience, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency Madya Irawan said here Tuesday that he had handled the HPR bite case.
"We have handled the case and all victims have received a complete Anti-Rabies Vaccine (VAR) both in hospitals and community health centers. Insya Allah, it is safe and not dangerous," he said.
According to Madya, who was accompanied by the Head of the Animal Health Section Ratna Kusdewanti, 10 cases of positive rabies consisted of 5 bite cases, namely 1 wildcat bite, 2 bites of proprietary (pet or domestic) dogs, and 2 cases of wild dog bites.
Meanwhile, five other non-bite cases included 3 cases of proprietary dogs and 2 cases of stray dogs found dead on the roadside and after being tested by the laboratory it turned out to be rabies positive.
"A positive case of rabies is based on the results of a laboratory examination known as FAT (Fluorescent Antibody Test)," Madya, who was also accompanied by field officer Widodo Pujiatmoko, said.
10 cases of positive rabies occurred from March to September 2018 and it was assumed that every three weeks there were new cases of the deadly disease.
"The positive number of rabies also increased five-fold compared to 2017 with only two positive cases and both in proprietary (pet) dogs, 1 dog bite case and 1 dog patient case," he said.
From January to September, there were 55 temporary cases of rabies-infected animal bites and it was confirmed that there was an increase compared to last year with 57 cases until the end of the year.
