Acting Head of Agriculture Agency Wagimin on Monday said in 2017 Tapin again became the highest contributor of rice for South
Kalimantan. With a planting area of 84 thousand hectares, it produced 52 quintals of rice per ha and a total production of 421 thousand tons.
"Our rice production in 2017 exceeded the target from the government. Whereas Tapin is targeted to reach 391 thousand tons, but the realization in the field reaches 421 tons more," he said.
Tapin chosen as the most rice contributor in 2017 becomes a pride and prove that Tapin District Government is really serious to make the district as the national food barn.
"In some areas in Tapin has been able to plant three times a year, it is due to the availability of irrigation flow," he said.
Areas that have been planting three times a year include Timbaan and Binderang Villages in Lokapaikat Subdistrict, Pulau Pinang in Binuang Sub-District, Harapan Masa and Lawahan Village in South Tapin, and Tirik Village in Central Tapin, and some in Salam Babaris Sub-district.
"For the year 2018, we are targeting the planting area of 86 thousand hectares with the target production of 410 thousand tons," said Wagimin again.
In addition to rice farming, Tapin has also become a supplier of corn and soybeans. Tapin in 2017 produced 8 thousand tons more corn with 337 hectares planting area and produced 95 tons of soybean with a planting area of 53 hectares.
