Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program is a huge investment to improve the quality of human resources by ensuring nutritional fulfillment and to support village economic growth.

This was conveyed by the president in his remarks at the Building Indonesia’s Future Generations Through Nutrition event in Bogor District, West Java, on Wednesday.

"Some of our children go to school every morning without having breakfast. In fact, they rarely get nutritious meals at home," Prabowo said as cited from a Presidential Secretariat statement.

He explained that childhood malnutrition can negatively impact growth and development, preventing children from reaching their full potential.

The president highlighted that there are still regions where over 20 percent to nearly 30 percent of children suffer from malnutrition, noting that this is a key contributing factor to stunting.

Prabowo pointed out that the impact of malnutrition extends beyond health, as it can also limit children's future opportunities in both education and employment.

He added that he had witnessed these conditions firsthand while interacting with communities across various regions.

Consequently, he emphasized that the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and the MBG program play a strategic role in supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening the quality of the nation's future generations.

Several developed nations have already implemented similar programs to boost public welfare and enhance their human resource quality.

Beyond its health and educational benefits, the president added that the MBG program will generate widespread economic impacts down to the village level.

Through the operation of MBG kitchens, produce from local farmers and businesses will be absorbed, thereby driving community prosperity.

He expressed optimism that the optimal implementation of the MBG program will reach up to 85 million beneficiaries and create millions of new jobs.

"The amount of money circulating in villages will be immense. Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, I am confident and fully believe that this program will succeed," President Prabowo asserted.
