Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The City Government of Banjarmasin issued a preparedness advisory for extreme weather, tidal flooding , and rainy season.
Head of the city Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Husni Thamrin here on Monday said the advisory was issued and circulated due to the high tide conditions coinciding with the relatively high rainfall.
"This is an appeal to the people to always be prepared for unexpected events, especially flooding," he stated.
Husni Thamrin explained that some areas of the city are experiencing tidal flood, especially those near the river due to high tides or rob.
"High tides generally happen around 10:00 pm or 12: 00 pm WITA (Central Indonesia Time) with water levels reaching 2.7 mdpl (meters above sea level)," he said.

Despite these conditions, Husni Thamrin said, the city government considered the situation is not severe and it's not yet time to issue disaster alert status.
"After the high tide ends, the puddles disappear quickly," he said.
Thus, he said, people are urged to take environmental action as preparedness efforts to reduce the risk of disasters during rainy season.
The public, as well as government agencies and private sector, are asked to work together to clear waterways of trash and other items. Prepare a disaster preparedness bag for urgent needs during emergencies.

Meanwhile, a Banjarmasin City Legislative Council (DPRD) member Hari Kartono asked the government to always monitor conditions on the ground, especially in flood-prone areas.
"It rained almost all day today, and several areas experiencing flooding. Even though not particularly deep, it's quite worrying if accompanied by tidal rises," he said.
