Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Youth and Sports Office is currently preparing to organize Jukung Boat Race and Balogo Tournament.
Jukung is a traditional rowboat, and rowing is a popular sport in South Kalimantan. While balogo is a traditional folk game now included in the National Recreational Sports Festival (FORNAS) and is contested nationally.
Head of Sport Culture of the office Budiono here on Friday said the race is to be held on Martapura River, pricely in Mantuil Urban Village, South Banjarmasin, on January 7, 2024, to compete for Governor's Cup. Governor Sahbirin Noor is poularly known as Uncle Birin.

The race is held, he said, also as a festive spectacle for the community and to preserve the river life culture of Banjar people.
Meanwhile, for the traditional sport of balogo, Budiono said, it will be held in Tamban Sub-district, Barito Kuala District, January 12-13, 2024.
The Uncle Birin Cup Balogo Festival is supported by the Indonesian Society Recreation Sports Committee (KORMI) of South Kalimantan.
"(These two events also) serve as training for traditional sports atheletes in our region," said Budiono.
