Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Caretaker Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun called on the local community to improve tolerance and brotherhood during the Eid al-Fitr in "Bumi Cendrawasih" (the Land of Paradise Bird), Papua's epithet.
"Eid al-Fitr is a precious moment to show mutual forgiveness between fellow believers," he noted in Jayapura City on Saturday.
By increasing the level of tolerance and brotherhood, Papuans will also contribute in the efforts to create a rising, independent, prosperous, and just Papua, he said.
"Tolerance is essential to create a peaceful and tranquil condition that is suitable for the country to advance," said Rumasukun, who is concurrently the province's regional secretary.
The Head of the Islamic Holidays Committee (PHBI) of Papua Province Alwie Tian Lean affirmed that Eid al-Fitr prayers in Papua ran smoothly without any problems.
"Thousands of congregation members gathered at the Governor's Office courtyard in Jayapura City to perform the Eid prayers. Everything went well," he stated.
He also invited Muslims to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood on the occasion of this year's Eid al-Fitr.
"Maintaining good relations between humans and love for the homeland should be part of the guidelines in living our lives," he concluded.
