Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Increasing people interest in reading can be done in various ways. The high vocation school of SMK Shalatiyah Bitin in North Hulu Sungai (HSU) District, for example, provides free coffee drinking service for visitors.
"We try to make innovation so that people are interested in coming to the library, especially men in the village, through the "Read books get free coffee" program," said the headmaster of the school Ahmad Auria in Amuntai.
He said that the school is indeed making various efforts to prepare itself for the 2021 National Library Competition representing South Kalimantan.
One of them by developing local wisdom, namely providing training of purun (kind of grass in peatland) and water hyacinth plaiting which is done by Bitin Village residents as their side income.
"The collection of books provided is also in accordance with the needs of the community, such as books on agriculture, crafts, animal husbandry, and so on," Auria explained.
The school also provides a mobile library through a smart motorbike program, in which officers bring a collection of books using a modified motorbike to the community.
Efforts to develop the library services is also carried out by collaborating with relevant agencies, such as Library and Archive Office, and Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and SME Office.
Head of HSU Library and Archive Office Lailatanur Raudah said that the guidance for the library of SMK Shalatiyah Bitin is also in order to get the national accreditation.
"Hopefully in June accreditation will be obtained to meet the requirements for the competition to the national level," he said.
