Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) granted the City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, an incentive fund of IDR9.4 billion on the 2021 National Waste Day.
Acting Mayor H Mukhyar here on Monday said that the city was granted a regional incentive fund for its success in reducing plastic bag garbage.
"Two provinces and 39 districts and cities, including our city, won the grants from the KLHK for our success in cutting down plastic bag garbage. The Minister carried out the rewarding virtually," he said.
According to Mukhyar, who is also Acting Secretary of the city and head of the Environment Agency, Banjarmasin has been implementing a plastic bag waste diet since 2016. Namely after Mayor Regulation No. 18 of 2016 was applied effectively to modern shops and markets.
The success of Banjarmasin was appreciated not only nationally, even internationally, thus it has become a successful pilot city in carrying out plastic bag garbage reduction.
"This (the KLHK's grant) is a continuation of awards we received for our commitment to reducing plastic bag waste," he said.
Mukhyar expressed his gratitude for the large enough regional incentive fund. He said the waste reduction program, especially plastic, would continue and this achievement must be maintained.
