Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, Agriculture Agency is boosting rice production to support food self-sufficiency and as an economic buffer for the the new capital in Kalimantan.
Head of the agency Faurazi Akbar through the Head of Food Crops and Horticulture Roby Candra here said on Monday (March 2, 2020), in August- September 2018 rice production was targeted at 113.922 ton which was realized 126.183 ton.
"From this target, the harvest area reached 23.984 hectares from 24.725 hectares of rice field in all sub-districts," Roby said.
Whereas in the period of August-September 2019 the agency targeted 117.457 tons of rice production with a planting area of 25.096 hectares and realized 24.895 hectares and the yield reached 90.108 tons.
The Tanah Bumbu region which produces the most rice is Kusan Hilir Sub-district about 32.788 ton of 6 thousand hectares field.
While rice production in Kusan Hulu Sub-district 26.152 tons from 2.488 hectares. However, production in other sub-districts is below those of the two sub-districts.
"In 2020 we are targeting to plant paddy on about 25.014 hectares of wet and dry land in all sub-districts with a harvest target pf 118.631 ton," he revealed.
To achieve the target, the agency helps the farmers by providing rice development seed, agricultural machinery, and irrigation through the 2020 state budget.
"So far farmers in Tanah Bumbu only rely on rain-fed fields in the process of planting rice, while the seeds use superior seeds of ceherang and invari," he concluded.
