Head of Kotabaru Health Office H Akhmad Rivai said based on data until now there were still 22 villages in the district endimic to malaria.

"The villages include Pulau Sembilan Sub-district (four villages); Kelumpang Barat (five villages); Sungai Durian (three villages); Pamukan Barat (three villages); Hampang (two villages); Kelumpang Hulu (two villages); Pulau Laut Selatan (two villages); and Pulau Laut Tengah (one village)," Rivai said here on Tuesday.

To control the spread and eradication of malaria strategic steps are needed. One of them is through technical guidance for malaria microscopic analysts at the puskesmas (community health center).

Technical competence for microscopic power in health services is one of the important factors in improving the quality of malaria laboratory examinations because it can reduce misdiagnosis error, said the head of the agency after opening Technical Guidance for Microscopic Analysts of Malaria at Puskesmas in Bungkukan, Kelumpang Barat Sub-district, Tuesday.

Technical guidance as well as supervision was carried out by the Malaria Manager of the South Kalimantan Health Agency along with the South Kalimantan Health Laboratory Staff , and BBTKLPP Banjarbaru.

The activities were attended by five puskesmas, namely the Puskesmas Sengayam (Pamukan Barat Sub-district), Puskesmas Banian (Sungai Durian), Bungkukan (Kelumpang Barat), Puskesmas Hampang (Hampang) and Puskesmas Sungai Kupang (Kelumpang Hulu).
