Regent Kotabaru Sayed Jafar opened the ferry service to cross Sebuku Island with the main Island of Kalimantan in Sigam-Tanjung Batu by involving PT Pelayaran Benua Raya Khatulistiwa, to provide ferries.
"This is the third ferry crossing the PT PBRK operates (in the district)," the regent said on Monday.
The Sigam-Tanjung Batu ferry connects the capital of Kotabaru with a number of sub-districts on the coast of the isolated Kalimantan mainland, namely North Kelumpang, Central Kelumpang, Sampanahan, and South Pamukan.
So far, access from the four sub-districts to the state road is very difficult, because the conditions are severely damaged. With the opening of crossing ships, the mileage can be trimmed.
"The government wants to improve, but there is mining activity, it only will soon be destroyed again. Now, we hope the ferry will provide convenience for the community," said the Regent.
