Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Sebuku Group coal company in Kotabaru district, South Kalimantan, shows its concern for the underprivileged community around the company by distributing 800 packages of basic food items.


Head Mine Engineering of the Sebuku Group Johan Gesang here on Wednesday said on a monthly basis the Sebuku Group's management distributed packages of basic foods to needy families in the five target villages.

"The provision of basic food packages this time is the seventh although the company is still not producing yet," he said.

In addition to providing basic food packages, management also programs other activities to help the underprivileged, through education, economic and other useful programs.

"All of that as a form of corporate concern to the community in five villages around the company location," added Johan.

The Sebuku's Manager of Human Resource Development and Public Affairs Edhi Winarso added, the basic food aid is quite beneficial for the community, especially when high rainfall recently, and people can not move outside the home.

"The food package assistance is expected to reduce the burden of the community that some of them can not move outside the home due to high rainfall," added Edi.

Meanwhile, the high intensity of rain for several days caused some food crops to be submerged, especially rice, both ready for harvest and newly planted.

As a result, farmers in the Kotabaru region, especially in Pulau Laut Tengah, Pulau Laut Timur, lost millions of rupiah, due to the quality of unhusked paddy down till harvest failure.

Salino Village Chief Zakaria said the Sebuku Group's aid is very beneficial to the Salino community. Over 400 families or more than 1,000 people live here.

"Our people who get the basic food packages are around 163 heads of households and this assistance is very useful for our citizens," he explained.
