Kalimantan Water and Air Police team will immediately probe into the cause of the fire accident of Pertamina's fuel tanker in Muara Kuin.


"I've been reviewing the location and seeing the condition of the burning ship, and then we and the team will immediately investigate the cause of the fire," he said.

Currently, he added, the Self Propelled Oil Barge (SPOB) tanker Srikandi, which was caught on fire on Friday around 2:00 predawn is in the process of cooling.

He said he could not yet provide more information related to the diesel fuel-loaded tanker from Kotabaru.

"At the moment, it is important that all crew members are safe, there are no casualties, and the team will work to ascertain the cause of the fire," he assured.

Pertamina Communication and CSR Region Kalimantan Manager Yudy Nugraha said the fire occurred at 02.00 am and was extinguished at 04.00 at jetty 3 Banjarmasin fuel terminal. No casualties. All crews are found safe.

Fuel Terminal Condition is safe and in the cooling process to prevent fire from spreading from ship to Fuel Terminal.

"For safety, jetty 3 is currently not operated, but jetty 1 operates normally," he said.

Srikandi tanker was docked at the jetty of Barito River in Muara Kuin Banjarmasin when the incident occured.

According to KM Rimau PDT 208 tugboat Captain Sapri Eko, who was at the scene, the river suddenly was full of fire.

"I do not know what caused it, suddenly the tanker was on fire, and the oil spill filled the river," he told.

In a state still shocked to see the burning ship, he added, soon there was a strong smell from the river, and in a moment the river was filled with fire.

"Not long after, fire also seized several ships, including my ship, Rimau, which moored far enough from the location of the burning Pertamina ship," he said.
