Speaker of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, DPRD Suwanti stated that Islamic boarding school plays a vital role in Islamic religious education.
The local Legislative Council speaker made these remarks when attending the inauguration of Raudatul Arifin Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Sungai Limau Village, Pulau Laut Timur Sub-district recently.
"Alhamdulillah in our area in Pulau Laut Timur a pesantren has emerged as a place for religious education and plays an important role in the education and character building for the community," said Suwanti in Kotabaru as reported on Tuesday.

She assured that her team will be ready to support the ongoing development and providing infrastructure to support activities in pesantren.
"Of course, we need the participation of all parties. Including us the DPRD will also fully support this, especially its construction," said the legislator.
Kotabaru Deputy Regent Syairi Mukhlis expressed his appreciation for the inauguration. He said, following land grant in 2024, he would continue to support the development of the pesantren.
"With the establishment of Raudhatul Arifin Islamic Boarding School, hopefully it will produce young generation who are knowledgeable, have noble-character, and good deeds," he said.
According to Syairi, the presence of the pesantren will make it easier for the people in Pulau Laut Timur to pursue religious knowledge without having to travel out of the region.
