The District Government of Kotabaru welcomes the collaboration of Mujahid Dhuafa Foundation and PT Arutmin Indonesia NPLCT in the development of red ginger at the Al-Muslimun Mandin Islamic Boarding School, Semayap Village, North Pulau Laut, Wednesday.

Acting Regent of Kotabaru, in his remarks read by Assistant for Economy and Development H Akhmad Rivai, said that ginger or locally known as tipakan has very good benefits in health.

It has the efficacy to ward off disease and has high economic value, thus it deserves to be developed and cultivated properly.

"I on behalf of the government would like to thank and really welcome this planting, especially it involving the students at the Al-Muslimun Mandin," he said.

Here the students will get education about the benefit of ginger, so they not only get lessons in the classroom but are also taught how to cultivate plants. What is no less important is to grow awareness and concern for protecting and caring for the environment.

"Islamic boarding school (pesantren) is one of the sources to create a characterized young generation, both in religion and science. It is time for pesantren to become the locomotive in developing people's economy and playing an active role in realizing food security," he said.

Meanwhile, Commander of 1004 Kotabaru Military Command Lt. Col. Inf. Roy Fakhrul Rozi highly appreciates this activity, because it is a support for food security during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is an embryo in improving the community's economy. Hopefully, in addition to red ginger, other plants will also be planted," he said.
