Uncle Birin, a popular nickname of South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor, accompanied by his wife, Chair of Family Empowerment and Welfare driving team (TP-PKK) Raudatul Jannah, officiated Banjarbaru-Batulicin freeway at Awang Bangkal Bridge, Banjar District, Saturday (August 24, 2024). 

A 104 kilometers freeway, which was then named after him, Jalan Gubernur Sahbirin Noor, built since 2019 and completed in 2024, was to increase connectivity across the districs and cities in the province.

“This is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in our province,” said the Governor in Banjarbaru, Saturday.

Sahbirin, witnessed by a cleric KH Wildan Salman, 101 Antasari Provincial Military Commander, and Head of PUPR Ahmad Solhan, inked an inscripton and put up a sign for the Banjarbaru-Batulicin freeway. 

He said Banjarbaru-Batulicin road is a project that has a long history of planning and development.

The completion of this freeway was a clear evidence of the government's commitment to build a quality infrastructure for the progress of South Kalimantan.

“With this road, the journey from Banjarbaru to Batulicin, which previously took five to six hours, is now only about two hours," said the Governor.

This road connects two vital industrial areas, Jorong and Batulicin, with trade and service centers in Banjarbakula metropolitan.

“I would like to express my thanks to all stakeholders who have provided extraordinary commitment, so that the construction of Banjarbaru-Batulicin road could run well,” said Sahbirin. 

Head of South Kalimantan PUPR Ahmad Solhan said theBanjarbaru-Batulicin freeway could have an impact on thje flow of road mobility and logistics transportation. 

“Even though the road is 100 percent asphalted, there are two steel truss bridges are expected to be completed in December, and the remaining five of the total 37 box culverts are still under construction,” said Solhan. 

The inauguration of Banjarbaru-Batulicin freeway was coupled with the fifth carnival of Read an White with nearly 10 thousand drivers participating, includng state civil apparatus (ASN) and motorbike clubs throughout South Kalimantan.
