The District Government of Tabalong, South Kalimantan Province, is optimizing environmentally friendly public transportation services by operating 20 units of electric three wheelers or bajaj in urban areas.

Head of Tabalong Transportation Office Tumbur P Manalu said that electric bajaj is one of innovations in transportation service for the people which will operate in October 2024.

"The plan is in October 2024, we operate (bajaj) with an additional 10 units from Adaro and other partners," said Tumbur here on Saturday (August 17, 2024).

He said that the electric bajaj is targeting pedicab (becak) drivers in Tanjung and Murung Pudak Sub-district as their drivers in effort to curb regional inflation.

PT Adaro Indonesia CSR Supervisor for Environment Dwi Priyatno Jatmiko said that the 10 units electric bajaj assistance are four units come from Adaro, and  two unit each from PT Saptaindra Sejati, PT Buma, and PT PPA.

"We are still preparing the documents for the realization of assistance with a target of operating in October 2024," said Jatmiko.

Previously, Tabalong government launched an innovation of Free and Comfortable Public Transport Service or what called as Langsat Manis in December 2014.

The Langsat Manis innovation has had a positive impact on the people of "Bumi Saraba Kawa' (Tabalong's nickname), including increasing purchasing power by reducing community expenses for transportation cost.
