A Brazilian delegation at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali some time ago expressed interest in adopting water utilization technology from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

Head of ULM's Wetland Environmental Academic Support Unit Maya Amalia in Banjarmasin on Monday (May 27, 2024), said that there were two ULM's superior technology on display at WWF. First from the Faculty of Maths and Natural Science (MIPA) in the form of water treatment tool created by Lecturer Totok Wianto and the team. It works to process peat water into drinkable water with a capacity of 1-2 liter/minute.

“This tool is reliable during hydrological disaster, such as flood, and equipped with solar cell capable of converting light energy into electricity,” she said.

Second was organic fertilizer made from water hyacinth created by Lecturer Dessy Maulidya Maharani and the team of Faculty of Agriculture.

“We have displayed these two products (technology) at the 10th WWF in Bali. We collaborate with the Kalimantan III River Basin Center (BWS),” she said.

Maya told that delegations from various countries, especially Brazil, were interested because the two had their own characteristics. Water treatment tool also received special attention from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) as well as River Basin authorities from various provinces.

She said a coordination had been made with several foreign representatives and other provincial River Basin Centers to develop these two superior works with ULM expert team. 

Representative from Brazil, she said, expressed interest in the two works for water use in Brazil, communication has been established so that the two technology can be further developed in the future.

Maya said that the ULM's opportunity to participate in the 10th WWF in Bali had a positive impact on its mission to become a World Class University.
