PT PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) for South and Central Kalimantan has recorded transactions at public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLUs) has climbed almost 2,000 percent since the begining of 2024 compared to same period in 2023.

General Manager of PT PLN UID South and Central Kalimantan Muhammad Joharifin in Banjarbaru on Thursday said the transactions occurred at 12 SPKLUs spread across two regions of Kalimantan, south and central.

"Although electric car population in Kalimantan is not yet like that in Java, the results of monitoring show an increase in the use of SPKLUs. This means that many people are beginning to use electric cars," said Joharifin.

"This data is proof that electric car users in Kalimantan is growing and is hoped to increase along with the provision of SPKLUs prepared by PLN to meet the energy needs for electric vehicles used by community," he said.

Joharifin emphasized that the increase in the use of electric cars greatly supports the program to transition the use of fossil-based vehicles to electric energy in order to achieve the reduction in greenhouse gas emission by 2060.

He said PLN South-Central Kalimantan also encouraged Borneo Green Environment movement launched by Governor of South Kalimantan since 2017 by adding SPKLUs throughout South and Central Kalimantan.

"This year PLN South-Central Kalimantan has planned to add 35 new SPKLUs at several important points along the Kalimantan protocol route and we are pushing to complete 10 SPKLUs by the end of June 2024 and it is expected to trigger the increase use of electric cars in Kalimantan," he said.
