South Kalimantan DPRD's Commission II keeps on encouraging the province to maximize its marine and fisheries potential to boost locally generated revenue (PAD).
Deputy Chairman of Commission II Muhammad Yani Helmi or popularly known as Uncle Yani made his remarks here on Tuesday after a comparative study to East Java Province.
East Java, he said, is considered to have a lot of potentials in maritime and fisheries, and almost all of its regional governments are maximizing the potentials well

The commission has also visited East Java Maritime and Fisheries Office in Surabaya during their journey in the province from March 17 to 19, 2024
“East Java has an extraordinary achievements, excellent potential maximization that should be emulated. That's why we study to this province," said Uncle Yani, who is also Deputy Chair of Golkar Party fraction in the DPRD.
"East Java is in the top three of 10 provinces with the highest fisheries/aquaculture 1,359 million tonnes in 2023 or below West bawah Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and South Sulawedi,” he continued.
In addition, the government also carries out various programs to support marine and fisheries, including family catfish ponds, training for small business, labor intensive works, products rollout, door to door licensing, liveable housing, and revitalization of fishing gear.
Uncle Yani hopes that the Fisheries and Maritime Service here will be able to do the same.
"The reason is that South Kalimantan is a buffer area for the National Capital City of Nusantara (IKN), thus the marine and fisheries sector must be able to increase PAD," said Uncle Yani.
