A whirlwind has struck a village in Anjir Pasar Sub-district, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan, Monday at around 16.00, the local Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported.

Head of the Barito Kuala BPBD Aris Saputera said the agency has deployed its personnel right after they received the report.

“Our personnel and other team are now carrying searches regarding the impact of the whirlwind. There are damages to the houses,” he said.

Aris expounded that the whirlwind or locally known as puting beliung struck along with heavy rain and the detail condition on the ground cannot be reported yet, including the damages and whether it caused injuries.

“Currently it is still raining heavily at the location. Our team is still searching the exact number of houses affected,” he said.

Regarding in jured or fatal victims, Aris stated that at this time he had not received any reports and still collecting data and tracing the areas affected by the whirlwind.

Based on monitoring, not only Anjir Seberang Pasar 2 was affected, the puting beliung also hit Anjir Pasar Kota II in Barito Kuala.
