The government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan Province, through Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning Office (DP3AKB) has just received Child-Friendly District (KLA) award from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA). 

Kotabaru Regent H.Sayed Jafar hopes that the KLA award with a category of Pratama to motivate KLA task force to improve performance. In the next, he expected Kotabaru to win the Madya category. 

"The Child-Friendly District (KLA) award is the first that Kotabaru achieve with a Pratama category and was handed over in Semarang," he said in a press statement here, Wednesday.

KLA is an indicator of fulfillment of child`s basic rights, namely right to care and upbringing, health, education and recreation, and to protection from violence, exploitation and discrimination.

The Regent asked KLA task force to keep on coordinating and collaborates with all parties both inside and outside the team who contribute to the fulfillment of children's rights.

Head of DP3AKB Sri Sulistyani said there are 24 indicators that must be passed in order to achieve this award.

“Alhamdulilah (Thank God) Kotabaru Regency's grade has reched Pratama and a little more toward Madya,” she said, expressing her hope that in the coming year it could improve to Madya category.

At the awarding ceremony, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Darmawati said that this year's KLA award showed quite sharp increase in each category from the previous year.

"This reflect the commitment and seriousness of regional leaders and other stakeholders to ensure the fulfillment of children's special right and protection in their respective regions," she said.
