Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Banjarmasin showed off the sustainability of Loksado forests in South Hulu Sungai (HSS) on the national forestry seminar in Banjarbaru, Saturday.
Chief Executive of the ULM National Seminar Dr Hafiziannor here on Saturday revealed Loksado forests have become the research objectives of ULM Faculty of Forestry. It is considered the best in South Kalimantan, because they are very sustainable where the population is keeping the forest.
"Therefore Loksado forest became a national attraction now. We will take the participants of the seminar to visit, because this asset is highly guarded area as protected forest," he said.
He said the Protected Forest Management Unit (KPHL) in HSS is a forest management area corresponding principal function and allocation are managed efficiently and sustainably. It extent is about 32,803 square hectares.
This seminar in cooperation with the Community Forest Management Indonesia (Komhindo), he said, aims among others for the results of scientific research related to forests and products sustainability for KPH (forest management unit) based forest management.
It fitted the theme of this second national seminar "KPH based forest management for sustainable production, ecological and socio-economic culture". While forest management in HSS has been running well according to Minister of Forestry Decree No 750/Menhut-II/2012.
Besides, he added, to build networking and improve cooperation among scientists, academics, researchers, counselling workers, practitioners and bureaucrats to jointly implement KPH so that the concept can maintain the sustainability of forest production, forest ecology, socio-economic and cultural communities.
This seminar involved 16 colleges and 13 forestry centers, including KPH agencies and companies that follow. Here 98 scientific articles were discussed by four commissions.
"Participants about 300 where the points in this seminar will be a reference for forest management in the future, and there will be also a recommendation to the central government in managing forests," he said.
