Deputy Chairman of Kotabaru DPRD, South Kalimantan Mukhni Af encouraged residents in Pulau Laut Barat Sub-district to make use of their houses yard to plant horticulture to support family food security program.

"I hope local villages to begin to program family food security through house garden," he said here on Monday.

With the support of village government, he said, residents will be encouraged to do things that are solution for family economy.

"By planting yards with chili plants, vegetables, and so on, at least they no longer buy these necessities," he said.

He expounded that family is the smallest community in the society. The empowered family has the ability to empower all of its members with their potential to remain active.

"All family members have roles to help family economically," he said.

He acknowledged he had asked PKK team from sub-districts to villages to intensify understanding about the importance of family economy by building communication among groups and working groups of PKK in each villge.

Mukhni also asked related government agencies to re-intensify the government's food security program, one of which through Sustainable Foodyard (P2L) activities.

He believes that through community groups empowering, to cultivate various plants by making use of houseyard or unproductive empty land, will overcome family economic problems.
