Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government of North Hulu Sungai, South Kalimantan, continues to build sports infrastructure to encourage the younger generation achievements in this field.
Regent of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Abdul Wahid in Amuntai onWednesday said the facility and infrastructure improvement program has very long been proposed by HSU branch of National Sports Committee (KONI) till in 2016 can be accommodated.
"Achieving excellence in sport is certainly not our primary objective in the development of sports area, but rather that more people engage in sports activities, especially the younger generation in order to avoid the negative things," he said.
Wahid statement was an answer to several factions in local council assembly (DPRD) who have questioned the urgency of the purchase of land for the development of sports area through a budget allocation of about Rp20 billion amid delays of general allocation funds (DAU) by the central government.
According to Wahid, sports area expansion near GOR Karias planned to build sports venues include for basketball, volleyball, takraw, archery and other sports.
Wahid explained the urgency of the development of this sport area, as HSU still does not have enough sports facilities it constrained in promoting athletes coaching.
"Our desire to host the South Kalimantan Provincial Game (Porprov) also has not been implemented because of incomplete infrastructure of sport," said Wahid.
The sports area development plan, he added, was also to meet the aspirations and needs of the community, so that the younger generation can be directed toward positive activities and to avoid the influence of drugs and others.
Another important consideration, he said, landowners are now willing to sell the land. It is feared that the community changed their mind to sell it, if the plan purchase of land postponed by the local government.
Regent ensured the allocation of a budget of Rp20 billion will be rationalized according to the needs in the field. Besides the valuation of land purchase price is fully handed over to independent institutions in order to avoid mark-up.
