PT Adaro Indonesia reaffirmed itself as a mining company with the best environmental management as it awarded the 2022 Gold Proper by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) of the Republic of Indonesia.
The award was presented by the Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya to President Director of PT Adaro Indonesia Priyadi at the VP Palace, Thursday (Dec 29, 2022).
This is the fifth Proper Gold that Adaro has received, since the first time in 2012, which was then continued in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
PT Adaro Indonesia's Director of Operations Wahyu Sulistiyo said that this award was the result of hard work of all parties involved.
Gold Proper assessment, he pointed out, was not only one but involved many aspects, including environmental management, good mining practices, empowering communities around the mine, to managing factors supporting operational activities, such as security, relations with the surrounding community, and the company's positive image in the media.
Wahyu admits that in the future there will be many more challenges, so the synergy between functions at the company must continue to be strengthened and proper awards are aligned with the Adaro Group which will gradually transform towards green energy.
"All operational aspects of Adaro must work together to achieve the goal of creating an independent post-mining community," he said.
Meanwhile, PT Adaro Indonesia's Head of Mining Engineering Suhernomo said, the Gold Proper award could not be separated from the continuous guidance provided by the District Environmental Office, Provincial Environmental Agency, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and Directorate of Engineering & Environment, Directorate General of Mineral and Coal for Adaro.
"We would like to thank the stakeholders who have supported Adaro to win this award," he said.
"We also thank our holding company, PT Adaro Energy Indonesia, for prioritizing the future value of a green company and green leadership," he concluded.
In this year's Proper assessment, PT Adaro Indonesia carries a superior program for the use of bamboo plants to support operational activities and community empowerment programs.
Bamboo, which has the function of absorbing carbon, producing oxygen, and storing water reserves, is used by Adaro to support operational activities.
Among them are planted on the side of the hauling road, in the port area at Kelanis, in the post-mining laboratory area, as well as in other areas in the operational area.
Adaro also developed bamboo plants in the nursery area and post-mining study center in the framework of post-mining synergy with community empowerment programs.
In the aspect of the community empowerment program, Adaro initiated the use of bamboo plants as the main commodity by building the Racah Mulang Cultural Market in Balida Village, Balangan District, South Kalimantan.
The tourism village, which was built by PT Adaro Indonesia in 2019, has now become one of the leading tourist destinations in Balangan which offers bamboo-themed landscape, local culinary delights, as well as a cultural arts performance event typical of Banjar.(Adv)
