Nurul Muhibbin Islamic Bording School in Halong Sub-district, Balangan District, South Kalimantan, have harvested edamame or Japanese soybeans as a result of assistance from Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN) and the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM).
The abundant harvest of edamame was also a form of success for the students (santri) and management of the boarding school in the field of agriculture through the Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program (PASS) or Adaro's Prosperous Santri Program.
"Alhamdulillah (Thank God) the edamame harvest can add income to Islamic boarding school (pesantren)," said one of business managers at Nurul Muhibbin, Mukhlis.
It yielded about 150 kg of harvest. Edamame known as healthy food was sold at a reasonable high price of IDR25 thousand per kg.

In the first harvest here, edamame production reached 200 kg, because the land was not planted with other vegetables.
"In the second planting, besides edamame, the students also cultivated pokcay, so the production was not as it was in the first harvest," said Rina.
YABN and ULM had previously provided training to the students and the managers of the boarding school on cultavating edamame and making vegetable pesticides.
