Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Mayor Ibnu Sina said the use of "bakul purun" (a shopping bag of woven rushes) craft as substituter to plastic shopping bags need to be socialized.
"Bakul purun is typical woven handicrafts of this area we should socialize in order to become people's choice as shopping bags," he said at City Hall, Friday.
According to him, with the issuance of policy to reduce plastic waste, especially plastic bags, in modern shops, then public should be directed to bring their own bags which can be used continuously.
"One of which by using purun baskets. It can be made in a good fashion, making it suitable even to the mall, for example," said Ibnu Sina.
He believes, with creativity the woven handicraft can be design much better, then public interest to use it will be high.
Surely, he said, much use of purun baskets could help increase small business economy with their home industry.
"So, I asked the relevant agencies should take this moment to socialize typical products of this area and provide guidance," he said.
Similarly, modern shops, he asked, to make room for the marketing of this craft.
