The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected hotspots in Balikpapan City and five districts in Indonesian province of East Kalimantan.
Carolina Meylita Sibarani, an officer at the BMKG Office of Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport, here on Sunday said that 33 hotspots have been detected since Saturday.
She said, one of the 33 hotspots was detected in Balikpapan Timur Subdistrict of Balikpapan City, while 32 others were detected in the districts of Kutai Barat, Mahakam Ulu, Paser, Kutai Timur, and Kutai Kartanegara.
The hotspots mostly found in iKutai Timur District. "Twenty three of the 33 hot spots were detected in Kutai Timur District," Sibarani added.
Speaking to ANTARA, she said the detected hotspots had been reported to the province's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to enable related authorities to take necessary immediate actions.

"A total of 45 hotspots were monitored last Wednesday, from 13:00 to 17:00 WITA (Central Indonesian Standard Time), and we have conveyed the information to the relevant agencies in their respective districts," Ilham Rosihan Fachturoni, forecaster of Balikpapan BMKG's Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman (SAMS) Sepinggan Station, stated here on Thursday (June 2, 2022).
