Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of the Tanah Laut Environment Agency (BLH) Riyadi said the planting of mangroves continues to rehabilitate coastal area measuring 850 hectares.


"Mangrove planting continue to be undertaken jointly with Special Ports Association specifically in the area of ​​coast to repair the damage in this area," said Riyadi in Pelaihari Monday.

According to him, the current number of mangrove planting in coastal area just reached two hectares, and has yet to reach the target will be done in accordance to joint declaration between Tanah Laut government and Special Ports Association.

He said mangrove planting is very important one of which is to rehabilitate the environment, ecology and marine life. BLH coordinates with the Fisheries and Marine Resources Agency, so that efforts to improve coastal areas really achieved well.

The coast rehabilitation efforts, he explained, enforced by zone so that handling is easier and the zone will represent the mangrove planting activity.

After mangrove planting realized in beach, the next step is the use of mangroves for communities around the coast. It was appropriate program of Fisheries and Marine Agency, especially the empowerment of communities in improving their businesses.

Then, he said, based on experience of Sidoarjo District, East Java, utilization of mangrove forests help people in their various business activities. Things like this can be applied in the Tanah Laut.

"We hope that the mangrove forests in Tanah Laut could mimic mangrove forest use in Sidoarjo," said Riyadi.
