The City of Banjarmasin has received financial assistance from the central government for its urban farming program which is known as Program Pekarangan Pangan Lestari (P2L) or the sustainable food garden program.
Head of Banjarmasin Food Security and Fisheries Agency M Makhmud here on Saturday (January 15, 2022) said the assistance worth IDR120 million sourced from the 2022 Special Allocation Fund (DAK).
The fund, he said, will directly be delivered to P2L groups in the city for the development of agriulture sector, especially vegetables.
In Banjarmasin there are 20 P2L groups that have been formed. Each group consists of about 30 families.
According to Makhmud, they work together to develop vegetble farming for family food security. "Such planting mustard, tomatto, eggplant, and chili," he said.
Technically his agency provides guidance on techniques for developing vegetable crops from seedling to maintenance to produce good yields.
As an urban area that is densely populated and has very limited land, he said, the strategy of using open green land is implemented for the initial develoment of nurseries.
