A team of lecturers of the Lambung Mangkurat University's (ULM's) Faculty of Agriculture carried out first harvest of edamame together with Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN) and santri (students) of Nurul Muhibbin Islamic Boarding School (Pondok Pesantren ) in Halong Sub-district, Balangan, Monday (January 10, 2022).

It was part of the Adaro Santri Sejahtera (PASS) program, a collaboration of Adaro and ULM in a matching fund scheme to assist the pesantren business development process.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), we have been able to reap success in today's harvest, even though it is not maximal the most important thing is we have tried and made efforts,” said Ustadz (teacher) Muhammad Rizali, Head of the Pesantren Nurul Muhibbin Halong Business Management (BPUP).

The ustadz expressed his gratitude to ULM for providing assistance in the cultivation of Edamame, as well as to YABN team for their support.

“Edamame cultivation activities increased the skills of santri in addition to their religious learning, so it can be a provision for them when living in the community, and it is in accordance with the expectation of the pesantren leadership," said Ustadz Zali.

A sense of happiness was also expressed by the Faculty of Agiculture's lecturer Prof Agung Nugroho who joined the first harvest with santri.

“Alhamdulillah, what we have planned and tried has yielded results in front of our eyes. Hopefuly it will be useful for the pesantren business and increase nutrition for the santri,” he said.

Previously, he along with other lecturers and some ULM internship students for 110 days provided technical assistance for Edamame cultivation, both in the field and online.

Pest disease constraints, water supply chalanges, and plant care were process that must be faced before the harvest season arrives.
 
Moreover, all process were carried out organically. The team must be more intensive in doing the treatment.

“Without challanges and obstacles, we will not learn,” said Agung.

YABN Section Head Agung Nugroho, who also attended the first harvest, hoped that the achievement of the first harvest could be a capital to develop a bigger business in the future.

“Hopefully this harvest can contribute to pesantren and learning media for santri,” said Agung Nugroho.
