The Bukit Priangan Forest Farmers Group (KTH) of Bumi Jaya Village, Pelaihari Sub-district, Tanah Laut, together with nature lovers' community (Mapala) from the Tanah Laut Polytechnic, Mapala Tupan Meratus, and karang taruna (youth organization) planted jengkol (dogfruit) and petai (bitter beans) seeds in the Bukit Priangan protected forest, Saturday (January 15, 2022).

Head of Forest Protection of the Tanah Laut Forest Management Unit (KPH) Agus Suparno said 500 seeds of jengkol and petai were planted at the protected forest.

"The planting involves the Mapala of Tanah Laut Polytechnic, Mapala Tupan Meratus, KTH Bukit Priangan, Karang Taruna, Babinsa, village representatives, and representatives of Tanah Laut Environment Agency," he said.

The action was intended to maintain the existence of the Bukit Priangan protected forest and to prevent erosion.

"In the future,  Bukit Priangan is expected to become a place of education for students and the public," he hoped.

He asked Bukit Priangan farmers group to give the names of trees to let the visitors recognize them.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Mapala Tanah Laut Plytechnic Nur Yaman said about 20 members took part in the activity. "For environment preservation activities, we are ready to help and cooperate," he said.

Head of KTH Bukit Priangan Mus Mujiono thanked all who involved in the planting of jengkol and petai in Bukit Priangan.

"KTH Bukit Priangan is ready to cooperate with any party for environment sustainability in Bukit Priangan," he said.

So far, he expounded, there are two types of plant have been planted in the area, durian and banana.

"In the future we will add other type of plants in this area of more than 200 hectares," he said.
