River tubing tour managed by the youth group of Alat Village, Hantakan Sub-district, Central Hulu Sungai (HST), has re-opened and offers the challenge of a more extreme river rafting sport by riding innertube along the river of Meratus mountains.
The tour destination which was opened in 2018 was busily attended by tourists from various regions, but the flash flood in early January 2021 destroyed its facilities.
"Now we are trying to rise and making improvements. For now, we open only on Saturday and Sunday," said Hijrianor, one of the youth, Sunday (October 17, 2021).
According to him, due to the flash flood, river crossing or rapids that were previously normal have become more extreme. "We take a start from Arangani to go to Alat Village. There two packages to choose, one hour and two hours trip," he said.
"A group is usually more exciting than taking it alone. One trip can be 10 to 15 people. The cost per person is only Rp40,000 to 50,000 depending on the chosen trip," said Hijri.
From these rates, tourists get a delivery car facility to starting point, life jackets, and security helmets, drinking water, snacks, and accompanied by a rescue team who can be asked to take photos during the ride.
Hijrianoor acknowledged that the tour was previously managed by the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes), but it is now managed by the village youth. "During the major flood almost all facilities were destroyed, such as gazebos, parking lots, and changing rooms or toilets," he said.
"Our losses reached Rp20 million, then step by step we fixing it, so it is like it was. |We hope there will an assistance from the government or private or from elsewhere to make this tourism potential in Alat Village rises again," he said.
