University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Rector Prof. Sutarto Hadi encouraged students to start a business since college without interfering with their study activities.
"Education in higher education should not be used as an excuse for not being able to start a business. You can do anything as long as you have the determination and hard work," he said in Banjarmasin, Saturday.
Campus, he said, opens the widest possible opportunities for entrepreneurial students to support the growth of young entrepreneurs. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when lectures are conducted online, and students have plenty of time off-campus to do positive activities that can generate money.
"When graduating from the university, students should not only wish to become employees, but entrepreneurs who open up job opportunities for many people," he pointed out.
The best state university in Kalimantan with an A accreditation has even collaborated with the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) to assist with business capital for students who submit the best business proposal.
"Chairman of Hipmi Mardani H Maming once helped 10 students with IDR10 million each for business capital," said Sutarto.
ULM's move to become a campus that produces young entrepreneurs is in line with the policy of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbud Ristek) Nadiem Makarim's Kampus Merdeka (Freedom Campus) and Merdeka Belajar (Learning Freedom at Campus).
"The education world and the world of work should indeed be in line. We should assure that ULM alumni are ready to enter the world of work after graduation, including for those who run their own business," he said.
