The University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) inSouth Kalimantan has inaugurated as many as 20 dentists amidst the condition of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Since the pandemic hit Indonesia in March 2020, we have remained productive by graduating 20 dentists who are now working in several leading health facilities," said the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of ULM Dr. Drg. Maharani Laillyza Apriasari, Sp.PM here on Wednesday.

At the 23rd dentist oath-taking in 2021, FKG ULM graduated 11 new dentists. 

According to Maharani, the success of producing graduates is a form of commitment of FKG ULM to keep carrying out educational programs despite the limitations and challenges caused by the pandemic.

It was not easy, she acknowledged, both for students and lecturers to study online for they felt it was not optimal. Whereas some practical activities in the laboratory were needed.

"Inevitably, some practical learning must be held face-to-face by arranging students' schedules in turn, while we keep applying strict health protocols," she said.

A COVID-19 vaccination was also carried out. The majority of the academic community of FKG ULM had been administered the second dose of vaccine. Even if face-to-face lectures must be held, the campus is ready with health protocols and vaccination for students and lecturers.

Deputy Rector I for Academic Affairs of ULM Prof Aminuddin Prahatama Putra hopes that the alumni of FKG ULM to devote the knowledge they have to help improve the oral health of the people of South Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, Putri Amalia, one of the dentists who was inaugurated, said that she is ready to carry out her duties as a dentist well and proud of being the alumnus of the best state university with A accreditation in Kalimantan.
