Five South Kalimantan sambo athletes are preparing to compete in a national championship in Bandung, West Java, which will be held from 2 to 4 July 2021.
Muhammad Fuad or popularly known as Meriam Banjar Sunday at One Pride Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Rantau said that the national event in Bandung is a selection to enter Asian Championship representing Indonesia.
“In November 2021, Indonesia will host Asian Championship to be held in Bali. Our target is that we could enter as representatives of Indonesia,” said the PDAM Tapin employee.
South Kalimantan is preparing its fighters who are still undergoing training centered in Banjarmasin.
The five fighters are Ali Badali (18) born in Tapin, Rizki Mulia Ananda (26) born in Singapore, Muhammad Fuad (26) born in Tapin, Rizky Oktavia (20) born in Martapura, and Ridha Wahdaniaty 30) born in Martapura.
“The classes they will follow are Ali Badali for men's 53kg, Risky Mulia Ananda in men's 71 kg, M Fuad to fight in men's 79 kg, Risky Oktavia in women's 50 kg, and Ridha Wahdaniaty in women's 85 kg,” said the national wrestling athlete.

South Kalimantan sambo coach Ricky Fajar Adiputra said that participation in the national championship is the first time. In general, he said, his proteges can be said ready to fight.
Sambo is a sport that originated in Russia. It combines various martial arts such as karate, judo, and jiu-jitsu. This self-defense relies heavily on leg locks as a characteristic when attacking an opponent.
“Hopefully, sambo will be a leading sport in South Kalimantan. We ask the residents of South Kalimantan to pray for us to make our province (Banua) proud at the national championship and to represent Indonesia,” he hoped.
