A tornado damaged tens of houses in Penggalaman Village, Martapura Barat Sub-district, Banjar District, Friday afternoon.
The acting Head of Martapura Barat Su-district Ahmad Rabbani said the disaster occurred at about 17.30 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) causing heavy and light damage to dozens of houses.
"15 houses were heavily damaged, 5 moderately damaged, and 6 were lightly damaged," he said by telephone.
The tornado also hit two other villages, Keliling Benteng Tengah with 2 houses moderately damaged, 1 lightly damaged, 1 heavily damaged, and Keliling Benteng Ulu Village with 1 house heavily damaged.
"The incident lasted about 30 minutes to an hour starting with quite heavy rain accompanied by a strong wind that damaged buildings and houses of residents which were passed by the wind," he said.
The sub-district office assisted by village officials is still recorded data on residents who have become victims. They temporarily fled to mushala (prayer place) or to their families homes.
The Daily Head of Banjar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Irwan Kumar, who was contacted separately said the agency immediately went to the field to distribute tents and food to the refugees in the disaster area.
"One big ten enough to accommodate several families has been sent for the victims to stay temporarily," said Kumar adding that Regent of Banjar Saidi Mansyur plans to visit the disaster site on Saturday.
