Ten types of the Tabalong District's durian have obtained a certificate of plant variety protection rights from the Agricultural Center for Plant Variety Protection and Licensing (PPVTPP).

Head of the South Kalimantan Agricultural Technology Assessment Center (BPTP) Muhammad Amin conveyed this during a working visit to Tabalong, Thursday (June 10, 2021).

"Ten types of durian from Tabalong have specifically registered at the PPVTP since 2018-2019," Amin said.

The district's durian that have received the certificate include Layung Burum, Tandak Uya, Red Pempakin, Layung Pujung, Gantar Bumi Uya, Likol Burum, and Likoi Kuning.

Regent Anang Syakhfiani acknowledged that the local durian in 'Bumi Saraba Kawa' (Tabalong's nickname) is known to be delicious, but it is not a guarantee that outsiders will like it.

He reminded that there would be an influx of people from Java as the new nation's capital move to East Kalimantan, which borders Tabalong.

"We need to develop durian varieties that people outside  Tabalong will like them," said Anang.

Anang asked the South Kalimantan BPTP to conduct a study of how the Tabalong durian could be engineered so that it has lower side effects for health.
