The Tabalong District Government won the Sasangga Banua award for its consistency and commitment to protecting and managing the environment in a sustainable manner.

Tabalong received the title of environment struggler from the Governor of South Kalimantan for the category of local government at the provincial level.

Regent Anang Syakhfiani expressed his gratitude that 'Bumi Saraba Kawa' (Tabalong's nickname) was chosen as the recipient of the Sasangga Banua award.

"In the midst of a pandemic, friends continue to work consistently to protect the environment," Anang pointed out.

The award was presented online by acting Governor Safrizal ZA at the commemoration of World Environment Day 2021.

Anang assessed that the environmental protection and management in Tabalong have shown real progress from year to year, such as increasing green open space, waste bank at every village and urban village, reduction of garbage pile at the temporary and final disposal, as well as incessant of greening program through tree planting.

Related to tree planting, Anang instructed the head of the Environment Agency to evaluate it as soon as possible to make it even better.

"Who provides seedling, who to plant, and who will care must continue to be evaluated," said Anang.

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2021, the Regent along with the district leadership (Forkopimda) and staff planted angsana tree at the Belimbing Raya Muslim Public Cemetary, which is also a special burial place for COVID-19 patients.
