Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antara) - Energy biogas or methane gas generated from water hyacinth is being developed at Danau Panggang, North Hulu Sungai, said Head of the Department of Energy of South Kalimantan Mines and Energy Agency Joko Winarno.


This is the program of the province government cooperated with the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) government to take advantage of the water hyacinth plants that very much dominated the rivers to produced biogas or methane, he said here on Wednesday.

"Like a tit for tat, HSU local government as well as the community are very supportive of the program to run
smoothly," he said.

He said the program utilize river waste water hyacinth buried to produce biogas energy has been successful, but the scale is still small.

Therefore, said Joko, this program will be developed further in a larger, especially raw materials hyacinth is
very rich in this area.

Joko assures, the public will be greatly helped by this program as a source of alternative energy environmentally friendly even as a substitute for kerosene or wood for cooking.

Even the next day, he said, the likely it is to be used as household power plant will be realized.
