Banjarbaru Mayor H M Aditya Mufti Ariffin launched a love zakat drive to raise public awareness on fulfilling the obligation to pay zakat, especially in Ramadhan.
The launch of the love zakat drive was carried out by the Mayor together with Deputy Mayor Wartono at the City Hall lobby on Monday in collaboration with the Banjarbaru National Zakat Agency (Baznas).
"Through the love zakat drive, we remind the public, especially the wealthy, to fulfill their obligation to pay zakat to be then distributed to the right recipients," said the mayor on the sideline of the campaign.
He said that zakat makes a very big contribution in efforts to alleviate poverty and in disaster handling, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
He pointed out that the movement is expected to be able to encourage more people to set aside their wealth to the Banjarbaru Baznas.

"Zakat collected through Baznas will be distributed to people who are entitled to receive, including people affected by COVID-19, because they have lost their livelihood due to the pandemic," he said.
The Mayor really appreciated the awareness of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of the Banjarbaru City Government who paid their zakat, infaq, or alms through Baznas.
"Hopefully the zakat we pay will improve our fasting and increase piety and obedience to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala," said the Mayor in front of heads of government agencies who present and paid zakat.
