The city Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, has obtained from the South Kalimantan chapter of the Indonesian National Consultants Association (Intakindo) a bridge design for building on the riverbank for the normalization of A Yani River and Veteran River.

In the normalization that was carried out after the flood, a number of shophouse bridges that were built across the rivers were put in order because of disrupting or blocked the flow of the rivers.

The city government allowed buildings or shop houses to build a river bridge but with standards set so as not to interfere with the flows of the rivers, which are canals from the Dutch colonial heritage.

"Today we received the initial design or prototype from Intakindo South Kalimantan for the river bridge on Jalan A Yani and Jalan Veteran," said Acting Mayor H Mukhyar at the City Hall, Monday.

The prototype submitted by Head of Intakindo South Kalimantan Nanda Febryan to him was then evaluated by the River Normalization Task Force of the Banjarmasin Public Works and Public Housing Agency, to become the legal basis for river bridge construction.

"We learn it sooner, it races with the time for them to be able to build the bridges that previously were demolished. We will follow up with the Mayor's Decree," he said.

Meanwhile, Head the River Normalization and Flood Handling Task force Doyo Pudjadi reiterated that the standard river bridge design is proof that post-flood normalization continues, not only during the emergency response.
