South Kalimantan recorded 0.17 percent deflation with a consumer price index (IHK) that stood at 106.59 in January 2021, a decrease compared to the previous month.
Kotabaru and Tanjung experienced inflation of 0.25 percent and 0.03 percent, while Banjarmasin recorded deflation of 0.23 percent.
"Based on the calendar year in January 2021 South Kalimantan recorded a monthly deflation of 0.17 percent, while year on year inflation rate is 1.2 percent," said Head of South Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency (BPS) M Edy Mahmud, Tuesday.
Deflation occurred due to a significant decrease in prices of the transportation expenditure group by 3.95 percent, while the index of other groups increased but not significantly.
Among which the food and beverage supply group 0.77 percent, health and personal care group and other services 0.69 percent.
It also occurred in recreation, sports, and culture group 0.43 percent, food, beverage, and tobacco 0.37 percent, and other four groups.
"Commodities whose prices have decreased with the highest share of deflation including air transport, eggs, shallots, chicken, and papuyu (climbing perch) fish," he said.
While commodities whose prices increased with the highest share of inflation were cayenne pepper, rice with side dishes, tempeh, raw tofu, and long beans.

Of 90 CPI cities in Indonesia, 75 recorded inflation, and 15 others recorded deflation. The highest inflation was in Mamuju at 1.43 percent, and the lowest in Ambon at 0.02 percent.
The deepest deflation was in Bau-Bau 0.92 percent and the lowest in Pontianak 0.01 percent. While in Kalimantan, seven cities recorded inflation and five others with deflation.
The highest inflation was in Tanjung Selor 0.49 percent, the lowest in Balikpapan 0.02 percent. The deepest deflation in Tarakan 0.85 percent, and the lowest in Pontianak 0.01 percent.
