Floods coming from the neighboring districts have still inundated the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) remote areas, although the water has receded in the capital city of Amuntai and its surroundings.
Head of Sungai Pandan Sub-district Surya Sufi here on Thursday said two villages in his area, namely Putat Atas and Padang Bangkal were still flooded.
"In fact flood was late to hit these two villages, but it also took a long time to recede compared to riverbank areas. The site is in the midst of swamplands quite far from the main road and Alabio polder," said Surya.
The remote site of the villages made it difficult for its residents for an access to go out, they only rely on boat or traditional motorboat, klotok.
"The overflow of Nagara River had caused swampland water discharge increasing and swamped road access and footbridges, thus people found it difficult to do their activities," he said.
Based on the report his received on Thursday, in addition to Putat Atas and Padang Bangkal, there were still nine villages in the sub-district were flooded.
Surya Sufi said that basic food assistance for Putat Atas and Padang Bangkal came from Badan Kontak Majelis Ta'lim (BKMT) of HSU on Thursday.
Of a total 196 packages of food assistance received, 81 packages were distributed to residents of Putat Atas Village, and 115 packages for Padang Bangkal Village.
"We have collected the assistance from members of HSU BKTM supported by South Kalimantan BKMT," said Chairperson of HSU BKMT Hj Noor Rasyidah.
