Kotabaru DPRD Speaker Syairi Mukhlis led the distribution of logistic assistance for victims of major flood to the severe and isolated point in Central Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST), namely Wake Village in Batubenawa Sub-disrtict, and Alat Village in Hantakan Sub-district.

Syairi Mukhlis together with Deputy Speaker H Mukhni AF and a number of Kotabaru's heads of government agencis had to fight hard to penetrate the affected areas. They even had to cross overflowing rivers with a rope.

He on the behalf of Kotabaru expressed condolence for the disaster that people in HST experienced, and prayed that they would steadfast and patient in facing the calamity.

"Hopefully this assistance from Kotabaru can ease the burden of the victims, remain patient and persevering in undergoing it until it gradually recovers," he said.

Head of HST Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) H Budi, who accompanied the entourage, explained that of nine sub-districts affected by flood, three experienced very badly, namely Hantakan, Batubenawa, and Barabai.

In Alat Village, among which, nine houses were swept away by flood, including a mushola (place of worship smaller than mosque).

"On behalf of the people here we express our gratitude to the DPRD, the government, and the people of Kotabaru who help HST residents, especially flood victims," said Budi.
