Deputy Mayor of Banjarbaru Darmawan Jaya Setiawan was officially inaugurated as the mayor to replace (the late) Nadjmi Adhani for the remaining tenure of 2016-2021.

Darmawan Jaya, who was inaugurated by the Governor of South Kalimantan Sahbirin Noor at the Mahligai Pancasila Building, Saturday, will only serve for one month, as the elected mayor and deputy mayor from the 2020 regional election will be inaugurated on February 17, 2021.

The promotion of Darmawan Jaya was based on Minister of Home Affairs Decree No 136-16 1.63/2021 dated January 6, 2021, concerning Banjarbaru Mayor's appointment and Deputy Mayor's dismissal.

The Governor in his remarks said the active role and agility of local government in working is very important. Especially in early 2021, in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of areas of South Kalimantan hit by floods.

"People today really need our role as government servants who must be alert and responsive in dealing with the impact of floods," said Uncle Birin, the Governor's familiar nickname.

Banjarbaru was hit by flood that affected 5 thousand residents. Banjarbaru also helps evacuees from neighboring areas, including Banjar District and Tanah Laut District.
