Police evacuated flood victims in Pematang Baru Village, Martapura Timur Sub-district, Banjar, South Kalimantan, Wednesday night.
"We prioritize a number of residents, especially children, women, and elderly, to be evacuated to a safer place. Until tonight the water is still high," said Martapura Timur Police Chief Sc. Insp. (Ipda) Samsul Bahri.
The flood that inundated 98 houses in four neighborhood units (RT) in Pematang Baru Village has reached 50 centimeter high. Village roads were submerged cutting off local people's access.
"We only use residents' boats for the evacuation process. Alhamdulillah until now there have been no casualties and hopefully, everyone is safe until the water recedes," said Samsul.
He said that the flood caused by the overflowing of the Martapura River after heavy rainfall in the last few days as well as water delivery from the higher areas in the mountains.
Samsul reminded people to be aware of the high water inundation in the next few days as the rain continues to fall.
"Residents whose houses are swamped should be aware of the danger of electrical short circuits. Please turn off all electricity temporarily," he appealed.
The police quick response action in helping flood victims was an instruction from the South Kalimantan Provincial Police Chief Insp.Gen.Rikwanto through Banjar Police Chief Adj. Sr. (AKBP) Andri Koko Prabowo that police personnel in the field to always present immediately for people who need help.
