Mayor of Banjarmasin H Ibnu Sina stated that to improve the discipline of citizens to avoid coronavirus fines will be imposed on violators of health protocol.
"Because of the level of discipline of citizens is still low, there needs to be sanctioned. Those who do not wear masks are fined Rp250,000," he said in Banjarmasin, Friday.
However, he said, the regulation regarding a fine of Rp250 thousand was still being formulated. The regulation later, he said, will be issued throgh the mayor's regulation (perwali).
"Hopefully next week the legal drafting is completed," he said.
In addition, there are several other options such as moral sanctions. For example push-ups for stubborn residents.
"Will it be a fine of Rp250 thousand or in other forms, the choices should be in the mayor's regulation, it could be a push-up or other physical punishment," he explained.
He acknowledged making the rules for this policy did take time, cannot be rushed, so there are mature considerations in determining the sanctions.
Banjarmasin is still high in COVID-19 transmission rate, to date 1.853 people have confirmed positve, as many as 439 people recovered and 138 died.
